Parenting Programmes

The Foundation Years Parenting Support service delivers high quality parenting interventions to support positive outcomes for children and young people and to empower parents by building on their strengthens and skills. We deliver the following courses to parents who need support in managing misbehaviour.

Incredible Years (BASIC parenting programme) (3-6 year olds) Targeted (evidenced based)

Targeted programme aimed at parents / carers of children aged 3-6 years with elevated levels of behavioural issues. This programme seeks to improve children’s school readiness and development. It involves attending 2 hour group sessions over a 14 week period.

  • Key principles of Incredible Years are to:-
  • Strengthen children’s social skills, self-control and school readiness.
  • Use praise and incentives to encourage co-operative behaviour.
  • Promote positive discipline; by establishing rules, routines and setting limits.

Promoting Happier Parenting (PHP) (0-8 year olds) Universal

Promoting Happier Parenting is a seven week programme for parents and carers with children aged 0-8 years old. It involves attending 2 hour group sessions over a 7 week period.

Sessions involve discussion, sharing of ideas and looking at scenarios to promote positive behaviour. Parents are encouraged to think about planning in advance and looking after their own needs in order to understand their children’s needs.

Infant Massage

A 5 week group session for parents / carers and their infants designed to promote:

  • Bonding and secure attachment.
  • Verbal / non-verbal communication.
  • Development of trust and confidence.
  • Using all the senses and enhancing feelings of love, respect, and being valued.
